Intensive Schedule 2017

Next few intensives

Intensive with Tracey Duncan June 12th - 23rd. 10 days/ $150
Iyengar Yoga Intensive with Heide May 29th - June 2nd, all levels. 5 days/ $75
Iyengar Yoga Intensive with Heide June 26th - July 7th, intermediate/ advanced 10 days $150

Iyengar Intensives - These 5-20 day intensives are intended to help the yoga student develop a daily practice.  The intensive begins with developing strength and balance in the standing poses, gentle chest opening in beginning backbends and leading up to beginning inversions, including shoulder balance, head stand, and full arm balance.  Unless specified beginners are welcome to attend.  This is a great way to experience yoga as it is intended to be practiced,
DAILY  Classses are 2 hours (7:30-9:30am). Registration of full 5-20 classes recommended.  It is best to attend all classes consecutively as classes develop sequentially. Intensives are held at least once a month.

Iyengar Level 1 - In this class we will work on foundational poses.  Standing poses, seated poses, beginning backbends, twists and forward bends.  This class is for the beginning student. This class will introduce poses that develop strength, flexibility and stamina.  This class is intended to introduce the basics of sequencing and principles of alignment.

Iyengar - all levels
In this class we work on foundational poses, safe for all levels of practitioners.  Alternate poses are available for the beginner student.  Student is expected to make appropriate decision.  In this class we explore the poses that develop the inversions and more advanced poses.  We continue to work on standing poses fundamental to developing strength and stamina.

Ongoing studies for teachers - this is a class free for students where we will each teach a few poses and work on refining our understanding of essential actions.  This will be an ongoing study group. Teachers from all traditions welcome. This is a good place to practice getting up in front of students and developing some effective teaching skills.

Alignment basics - all levels
In these classes we work on developing strength, stamina and flexibility.  These classes are slower in pace and great for beginners or those looking to refine their understanding of poses.  Poses are done often with props, such as blocks, blankets, ropes, and chairs.  These props help to  access new areas of the body and/ or allow us to hold poses longer than we normally could.  This has the function of increasing the beneficial nature of the postures, allowing to postures to penetrate deeper inside. GREAT FOR BEGINNERS OR THOSE NEWER TO YOGA OR LOOKING FOR A SLOWER PACE. Not a flow class

Open practice - Studio is open to students with an ongoing yoga practice.  This is for students who do not require instruction and know how to practice safely.   This is a time to practice what you have learned or understood from your teacher.  This is not a led practice, there is no given sequence or instruction.  Please be responsible with yourself, practice safely and with respect to those around you.  If you have an appropriate question it is fine to ask an experienced student or teacher, but try and find out for yourself if you can first answer the question.  Ideally for ongoing students of Yoga Bywater. $5

Vinyasa Flow Yoga with Bear- all levels - Vinyasa yoga matches each posture with the breath, creating an energetic, flowing practice. Bear's style of Vinyasa is based on skillful alignment, dynamic movement and lots of heart. These classes are appropriate for all levels, from those new to yoga to advanced practitioners.

Rehab Yoga with Tracey : Rehab is a hybrid yoga varietal. The first half of the class is a challenging vinyasa practice and the second half is restorative and includes a guided deep relaxation (yoga nidra). The result is invigorating and rejuvenating. This class is not appropriate for beginners.  Basic knowledge of vinyasa sequence required

Kundalini Yoga and Meditation with Joanna(75 mins)

In Kundalini Yoga, we use a physical asana practice to prepare the body and mind for meditation.  The physical practice is done in sets (kriyas) that systematically move energy through the body - clearing blockages, promoting balance, strength, and a sense of inner spaciousness.  While every class has a different focus, they all involve full-body stretching and strengthening, deep conscious breathing, and an 11-minute meditation.  All levels welcome!

Release and Restore, Restorative Yoga with Lauren Hind (90 mins)
Release and restore is a blend of restorative yoga, breath work, guided meditation and energy healing. A practice of being rather than doing, we will practice the art of surrendering into stillness; a relief from the stress of the everyday hustle and bustle. The body is supported in poses held for 3-5 minutes with the help of props such as bolsters and blankets. In this way, the body can release held tension and restore to its natural vitality and wellness. This practice is especially beneficial for anyone recovering from or living with trauma, injury or illness.

Led Practice with Lisa G. (60 mins)
This class is for people who practice yoga or attend class regularly, are familiar with the basic postures and are comfortable following the teacher in a set sequence with verbal cues and a breath count.

Slow Your Roll, Restorative Yoga with Lauren Hind (90 mins)
Through gentle, slow movement, subtle body awareness, breath work and restorative postures, this class explores the benefits of slowing down. When we "slow our roll" we create the opportunity to turn our attention inward, deepen our sense of self, and help mitigate the effects of the fight or flight stress response. Each class will include guided meditation and at least one restorative pose held for 10-15 minutes, where the body is supported with props such a bolsters and blankets. This is an excellent practice for anyone living with or recovering from trauma, injury or illness.

*Please come to class at least 5 minutes before classes begin.  Please come with an empty stomach.  Please bring your own mat (We have some available if you don't have one yet). All other equipment is provided. Wear comfortable, loose clothing and bare feet.
