Class Descriptions:
Intensives - These 10 day intensive are intended to help the yoga student develop a daily practice. The intensive begins with developing strength and balance in the standing poses, gentle chest opening in beginning backbends and leading up to beginning inversions, including shoulder balance, head stand, and full arm balance. Weekend classses are 2 hours (7:30-9:30am). Registration of full 10 classes required. It is best to attend all classes consecutively as classes develop sequentially. Intensives are held once a month.
Level 1 - Iyengar - This class will be an ongoing beginners class. We will work on building strength and endurance in the standing poses, continue to work on seated twists, introduce forward bends, continue work on the beginning backbends and begin to work toward the inversions. It is recommended to attend this class for at least 6 months before moving to a level 2 Iyengar class.
Level 2 - Iyengar - In this class we will work on the advanced standing poses, regular practice of inversions (headstand, shoulder stand, & full arm balance), and work towards advanced backbends and arm balancings. This class is not suitable for beginners. This class is suitable if you have experience in another method of yoga and are comfortable working on inversions.
Led Practice - Heide will lead a sequence without giving instructions. Students should be familiar with the sanskrit names of the poses and the fundamentals of each pose covered in the level 1 and level 2 classes. This is a good way to start practicing what we learn in class. Students should be familiar with the inversions. Open to all students who have been attending classes for 6 months continuously with Heide. This class is free.
Meditation Group - Heide will lead a seated meditation following the led practice. We will work on increasing our time sitting quietly, learning to tune in to the breath and savor our energy from the led practice. 20 mins-40 mins.
Sivananda Yoga - Level 1 - Sivananda focuses on stress relieving yoga postures and full yogic breathing exercises. This class will revitalize the body and help to control the mind, leaving you feeling calm and refreshed, while the practice of positive thinking and meditation gives increased clarity, mental power and concentration. If you have not ever taken a yoga class, re-entering your yoga practice, or simply looking for a restorative class, this is the perfect one for you!
Gentle Yoga - All levels - This class will move gently through foundational poses to increase range of motion, strength, and endurance. We will work in a restorative way using props such as blocks, bolsters, ropes and chairs to allow the body to relax and open. This class is appropriate for those with special needs, injuries, or prefer to work at a slower pace.
Sunstone Yoga - These classes are led by Dmitri Khorov - Mon & Thurs
This 90 minute class will lead one through a series of yoga postures, starting and ending with a breathing exercises. This practice will help you to reduce stress, improve flexibility and balance, additionally the practice serves as a preparatory stage of physical purification for higher meditation or Yoga.
Sat - The practice is based on the Pain Free Yoga methodology developed by SunStone Yoga and comes in 60 minute power and restorative class. Utilizing isometric and active stretching techniques combined with core strengthening movements, this class is a must for athletes and yoga students alike.
Dimitri is a 500 hours registered yoga teacher with yoga alliance, studied and certified in Sunstone Yoga Academy in the lineage of Bihar Yoga Bharati.
